Date
October- November 2022
Tech Used
Figma, Illustrator, Mirro, Photoshop
Problem
Users want a way to identify and report the sedge wren and possible nesting sites in the Northeast United States where it is endangered or threatened
Goal
Primary- Create a dedicated app for users in the field to help identify and report nesting sites for the sedge wren to local state agencies.
Secondary- Create a responsive website that will allow users to learn about the sedge wren and creating and protecting bird habitat
Solution
A native app for field use and responsive website for times when there is a data availability to help identify and report the Sedge Wren
Process
1. User Research
Personas and user journeys were created based on user research. Participants from diverse backgrounds were interviewed to determine user problems that the Wren website and app could help solve. Participants were pre-screened to make sure they either regularly participated in outdoor activities where they could encounter wrens or were active bird watchers. They ranged in age from 23-65.
2. Wireframing
Desktop Wireframes
3. Lo-Fi Prototype
4. Usability Study
An unmoderated usability study was conducted with 5 users (3 male, 2 female) sourced from peer groups and social media. Users were asked to use the photo id feature and then report a sighting.
